Synopsis
Three musicians from the extremes of Europe embark on an inner journey in search of inspiration. They explore the vastness of nature and the depth of their culture to find the essence of their next work. Joana dives into the secrets of Mallorca’s caves, Emil gets lost in the Nordic fjords, and Vasco navigates among the ancestral voices of Portugal.
Their solitary experiences reveal to us the beauty and mystery behind the creative process of composing music.

Director's note
Since I was a child, music has been present in my life. Together with cinema they competed for a while but finally I opted for cinema. There was always a fascination for the creative act of making music. Where do these melodies come from? How to balance craft and improvisation, control and emotion For years I have been researching the creative or non-fiction process both at the Majordocs festival, which I direct, and at other projects and documentaries. 3 years ago the possibility arose of being part of a European project that aimed to map the music of the extremes of Europe. I interviewed musicians from all over Europe about the conditioning factors of creation. So I chose three musicians whom I would accompany in the intimate process of creating. Musicians on the margins of the big record labels where craftsmanship meets new tools that facilitate great autonomy and freedom. The film is a journey into creation from the everyday, far from glamour. From performative moments, I portray the encounter between 3 musicians and the inspiration in spaces such as caves, abandoned schools, fjords, tundras, valleys or in the voices and sounds of old musicians. The first improvisations will be followed by sessions where the musicians model, transform and define the final work. Dryads is a sensory journey into creation where silence and the performative dominate over the word or the explanatory. Emil Karlsen is a young Sami musician who alternates the encounter with fjords, valleys, with observation from a hut. Vasco is a Portuguese musician whose project Omiri is inspired by Portuguese translation music to create a personal project of festive reinterpretation of Portuguese music. In this new work he intends to take a turn and get out of certain formulas. Incorporate your own lyrics and new ways of playing the instruments. Musician and anthropologist without meaning to, his music is born from a work of encounters and reinterpretations of the traditional music of his country.
